Priest River Times Priest River, Idaho submitted by: Muddypaw [muddypaw@onemain.com] G. LaVelle (Moore) Gornick, 84 G. LaVelle (Moore) Gornick, 84, of Priest River, passed away at her home on Aug. 3, 2004, just two days after her birthday. She was born at Rocky Point, Wyo. on Aug. 1, 1920, the daughter of George and Bessie (Yockum) Moore. She attended school in Gillette, Wyo. until the family moved to Jairdine, Mont. where her mother ran the hotel. On June 12, 1939, she married "Bill" William Carl Gornick in Bozeman, Mont. In 1945 the family moved to the Priest River area. Besides being a homemaker, LaVelle and her husband ran their own dairy farm for nearly 20 years. Mrs. Gornick was a member of the Valley Baptist Church, and Edgemere Grange. She served on the board of the Seneacquoteen Cemetery and was treasurer and secretary for the board of the HooDoo Valley Telephone Company for several years. In the early 1970's she was selected Valentine Homemaker of the Year by KCFA radio, which is now KMBI in Spokane. Mrs. Gornick loved the Lord, her church and family, and enjoyed teaching women's bible study. She loved her flowers and always had a big, beautiful garden. In May of 2002, her beloved husband preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Gary (and Alice) Gornick of San Lorenzo, Calif., three daughters, LaFaye Gornick of Post Falls, Marilea Boncz of Meridian, and Debra (and Kim) Alexander of Priest River, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren with two on the way. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded by two brothers, Elmo and Lindy Moore, and one sister, Elinor Bessey. A funeral service was held on Aug. 10 at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River. Interment followed at Seneacquoteen Cemetery in Vay. ************************************************************************ Copyright.
