Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho <> Maurine M. Guthrie, 69 Maurine passed away Nov. 30, 2004, at Kootenai Medical Center with her family by her side. Maurine was born in 1935 to Maurice and Mildred McGruder in Yakima, Wash., the eldest of three children. She was raised in Richland, Wash., attended school there, and in Colton, Wash. She attended nursing school, as well as obtained an associates degree in business. Maurine met and married Donald L. Guthrie while working at Newberry's in 1955. They moved to Southern California and raised three children. She was the head of the Girl Scout Council, team mother of many sports teams, and taught CCD religious Catholic education for all three of her children. She loved painting, camping, scrap booking, and knitting. In 1974, Maurine moved back with her family to Coeur d'Alene, where she and Donald had spent their honeymoon. They purchased and operated several businesses in Coeur d'Alene, including The Lone Pine Grocery Store, The Pop Shop, All American Amusement and The Clay Palace. Maurine was a member of St. Pius X in Coeur d'Alene. She felt so blessed to have so many sincere and loving family members and friends and dearly loved each one. In addition to friends and family, she dearly loved her dogs, Hobo, Rascal, Mischief, Cinnamon and Beethoven. Maurine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Bob Dury; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kimberly Guthrie; brother and sister-in-law, John and Kay McGruder; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maurine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald, in 1999, son Dean in 1991 and sister Michelle in 1999. Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Dec. 4 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with a celebration of life reception to follow at her son's residence in Hayden.
