Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Idaho <> Submitted by: Kristy Taylor [muddypaw@onemain.com] XEilah Butterfield Crain, 71 XEilah "Hexie" Osborne Butterfield Crain, 71, Hayden died July 23, 2004, at Kootenai Medical Center. She was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Tumwater, Wash. to Walter and Virginia (Potter) Obsborne. On Feb. 11, 1949, she married Thomas E. Butterfield in White Salmon, Wash. She has lived in Hayden since 1989. Hexie enjoyed making quilts for people and felt that when she did this it symbolized embracing them and it helped comfort and warm people. She belonged to the Coeur d'Alene Christian Center in Hayden and was an active member of the Red Hats and local senior citizen centers. Hexie loved to grow flowers, especially roses. She had a special pet, a dachshund named "Shorty" who will miss her greatly. Hexie is survived by her sons, Richard T. Butterfield, Sr. and Thomas E. Butterfield, Jr., both of Spokane and Rusty D. Butterfield of Coeur d'Alene; daughters, Ruth A. Glaspie and Deborah F. Francis both of Post Falls, Diana K. Thompson of Battleground, Wash., Suzanne M. Davis of Post Falls and Shirley L. Schmidt of Rathdrum; brothers DuWayne Osborne of North Bend, Ore. , Wendell Osborne of Willamina, Ore., Tyrone Emerson of Elma, Wash., and Rockey Emerson of Otis, Ore.; sisters Sharon Norman of Willamina, Ore., and Linda Jensen of Otis, Ore.; 34 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas E. Butterfield Sr. in 1990 and by her second husband, Ervin Crain in 1995, father, Walter Butterfield in 1967 and mother Virginia Osborne in 1980; children Cheryl Butterfield, Walter Butterfield, Stanley Butterfield and Kevin Leinan; grandchildren, Thomas Butterfield III, Sylvia Butterfield and Nickolas Thompson; brother Gordon Osborne and sisters Dorah Middleton and Kimron Stark. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 26 at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27 also at Yates Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens.
