Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Idaho <> Submitted by: Kristy Taylor [muddypaw@onemain.com] Robert E Bower, Sr. Born Feb. 10, 1938, Bob went off to play with his old dog, Rachel, in that big field of daisies in the sky July 12, 2004. Along the way he experienced a life so full that it can't easily be documented here, but we're going to try anyway. Bob was born in Spokane and lived there with his parents, Bob and Gladys, before moving to Sandpoint, where he graduated high school in 1955. He left North Idaho when he joined the Navy. He was stationed in Southern California and eventually settled in San Diego. In 1958, Bob married Joan Lawrence with whom he had four children (son Bob Jr. being the brightest of the bunch, and if anyone disagrees with that, they can write the next obituary). After the Navy, he stayed in the marine industry with a variety of institutions in a variety of positions: aboard tuna boats; Scripps Institute of Oceanography; Westinghouse Ocean Research; H&M Landing (the Salty Dog); owned a lobster boat (L-43D); Scripps again; moved to Panama and became a partner in a marine electronics company (Honor Marine Communications), which he later managed in San Diego; and finally moved to Seattle in 1984, where he was general manager for the marine electronics division of Harris Electric. Bob's many passions merged with his professional life. He loved boating licensed captain), diving (NAUI dive instructor), flying (commercial/float plane rating), fishing, skiing, traveling, his cabin in Sandpoint, sheep herding with his Shelties, and his wife, Jan, whom he married in 1993. Bob is survived by Jan, who loved and cared for him; son Bob Jr., the literate one (Sue); daughter Leslie Dahlen (Wayne); son Dave (Sabrina); son Pete (Debie); ten grandchildren; dogs Lyuba and Beau (his favorite kids); and many other family and friends, all of whom miss him already. All friends and family are welcome to join a celebration of his life 1 p.m. July 18 at his home. To honor Bob, the family suggests a donation to PAWS. ************************************************************************ Copyright.
