Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Idaho <> Howard M. Batchelder, 95 Howard M. Batchelder, 95, Hayden, died Sept. 9, 2004, in Coeur d'Alene. He was born Jan. 3, 1909, in Clinton, Iowa, to Albert A. and Margaret E. ( Stevenson) Batchelder. He came to this area from Wisconsin in 1933. He married Helene E. Brackelsberg in Coeur d'Alene and she preceded him in death September 1988. On May 26, 1990, he married Vivian Schaffer. Howard started the first regular residential garbage route in Coeur d'Alene and owned Coeur d'Alene Garbage Co. He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church. He ran a certified goat dairy, loved to fish and make fishing lures. Survivors include his wife, Vivian, at home; sons Richard G. Batchelder of Spokane, Gary A. Batchelder of St. Maries; daughters Bernadine M. Elbert and Joan E. Johnson, both of Spokane, Wash.; step-daughter Gail Jarrett of Orofino; brothers Alvin and Delbert, both of Hayden Lake, Leland of Carey; sisters Margaret of Wisconsin, Delores of Port Angeles, Wash., and Ila of California; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helene, six brothers and sisters. Vigil services will be Monday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene. Mass will be Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft, Coeur d'Alene. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene.
