Bettis, 79, Post Falls, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 31, 2004, in Spokane, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 30, 1925, in Raton, N.M., to Al and Mayfair (Rooney) Bettis, who preceded him in death. John was also preceded in death by his sisters Tootie Arlington and Judilee Rooney. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nellie, at the family home; son Ken Bettis and wife Naomi, Hayden; daughter Patti and husband Richard Wright, Spokane; daughter Paula LaFontaine, Portland; son Kevin Bettis and his Robin, Post Falls; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers Wayne, Patrick and Jim; and sisters Mildred and Mona. John retired in Spokane in 1985, after 37 years with the BNRR. He and Nellie loved to travel, spending their winters in Yuma, Ariz., and summers at the ocean fishing. One of his greatest joys was salmon fishing with his children and grandchildren. We love you, Dad, and will miss you. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. November 5 at Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, officiated by Pastor Dave Mulhern of Yuma, Ariz.
