Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Idaho <> Betty Bauslaugh, 87 Betty Topham Bauslaugh, 87, passed away peacefully, Sept. 5, 2004, in Coeur d' Alene. On September 18, her family is gathering for a memorial tribute in King City, Calif., where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, George, who died in 1982. Betty was born July 28, 1917, in Santa Cruz, Calif., and grew up in a ranching family, the youngest of three daughters, who rode horseback to school in their younger years. When Betty was eight, her family drove across the U.S. to visit family in the Midwest and East and travel was ever after dear to her. Betty met her future husband, George, while attending the University of California in Berkeley. They graduated together in 1939, married in 1941 and, after being separated during World War II, eventually lived in Berkeley, Orinda, and Coronado, Calif., where they raised their family. A willing and energetic volunteer in church and community, Betty always loved plants and flowers, won many prizes in shows, gracing countless events with beautifully creative arrangements. Betty and George took numerous trips abroad and her 30-plus years of world travel created very special memories. In 1998, Betty moved East to a retirement complex in Brevard, N.C., to be close to son Bob and his family prior to her move to Coeur d'Alene in 2003. Betty is survived by her children, Joan Gundlach and husband, Bill, of Coeur d' Alene, George Bauslaugh and wife Sue, San Antonio, Robert Bauslaugh and wife Anne Chapin, Brevard, N.C.; and six grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much. Graceful and positive her entire life, she never lost her joy in people and the world. She will be missed by all who knew her. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
