Obituary of VAUGHN, JAMES HARRISON 1929 Oconee, SC Keowee Courier, September 11, 1929 Death Calls James H. Vaughn, of Picket Post On Saturday morning, Sept. 7, at 2.30 o'clock the death angel entered the home of James Harrison Vaughn and bore his spirit back to God who gave it. He was in failing health almost three years, but was only seriously ill one week. He was uncomplaining in his suffering. The deceased united with the Camp Creek Baptist Church in early manhood and lived as an upright Christian the rest of his life. He was a man who attended Sunday school every Sunday and was a great church worker in all the communities in which he lived. Mr. Vaughn is survived by his widow, who was before marriage Miss Elizabeth Garrett, and three children, Robert Vaughn; Mrs. Fred Chapman and Mrs. Albert Lee, all of Oconee; and 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Three sisters also survive him, Mrs. Smith Rollins, Central; Mrs. J. B. Tramel, Walhalla, and Mrs. Laura Ferguson, of Greenville County. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Frank Capell, the remains being laid to rest in Bethel cemetery. His grandchildren showed their love for him by their beautiful floral offerings.
