TALLEY, SELMA HEAD Keowee Courier, January 13, 1960 Submitted by: Susan Brock-Booker Area Mourns Death of Mrs. Talley Mrs. Selma Head Talley, 40, died at her home in Salem early Tuesday morning following an illness of nine months. She was the wife of R. Clyde Talley of Salem, businessman and former mayor. Mrs. Talley was born in Pickens county, a daughter of L. P. and Nona Crenshaw Head, both of near Pickens. She graduated from Salem High school and for several years was bookkeeper for Wigington Lumber Co. At the time of her death she was a member of Oconee County Library Commission and was serving as clerk and treasurer for the town of Salem. She was a member of the First Baptist church of Salem where she taught a junior class in the Sunday school. She was also a member of the Walhalla Pilot Club where she had served as treasurer. Surviving besides her husband and parents are two brothers, Maurice and Ray Head of Salem; and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Craig of Pickens and Mrs. Evelyn Abercrombie of Sunset. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the First Baptist church of Salem by the Rev. R. R. Littleton, and the Rev. E. T. McLane and the Rev. Bailey Yates. Burial followed in Oconee Memorial Park. Pallbearers were John Golden, Lasco Mosley, Bowen and B. P. Ellenburg, Claude Crenshaw and Elbert Head. Honorary escort was composed of the Salem deacons of the First Baptist church of Salem and directors of Blue Ridge Bank of Walhalla.
