Obituary of SCHUMACHER, SOPHIA RIEPPE  1914 Oconee, SC

    The announcement last Sunday morning of the death of Mrs. O. H. Schumacher, 
Sr. came as a shock to many friends here.  Mrs. Schumacher had been in poor 
health for a number of years, but of late had apparently recovered much of her 
former strength, and friends hoped that her health was being gradually 
restored.  Early Sunday morning, however, she suffered a sudden and sever 
attack, and within a few moments from the time assistance reached her she 
breathed her last.  Mrs. Schumacher was 61 years of age.  She had been twice 
married, her first husband being Henry D. Meiburg, of Charleston, with whom she 
was united in marriage January 18, 1872, and to this union four children were 
born, three of whom---Miss Anna and Hampton Meiburg, of Walhalla, and Harry 
Meiburg, of Arkansas---survive.  Her second marriage (April 29th, 1884, at 
Charleston,) was to Otto H. Schumacher, who, with five children, survives.  The 
children are Otto H., Jr., George, John Schumacher, Miss Bertha Schumacher and 
Mrs. Katie White, all of Walhalla.  Mrs. Schumacher's maiden name was Anna 
Magreta Sophia Rieppe.  She was born in Charleston September 17, 1853.  One 
sister, Mrs. G. H. Mehrtens, of Charleston, also survives, and she reached 
Walhalla in time to attend the funeral, which was held from St. John's Lutheran 
church Monday morning at 10 o'clock, the interment following immediately in the 
Lutheran cemetery.  A large number of friends of the family attended the 
services both at the church and grave.  Mrs. Schumacher had long been a member 
of St. John's Lutheran church.  She was a good woman and a conscientious 
Christian, and there are many who will join with us in extending to the 
bereaved ones sincere sympathy in their sorrow.  Funeral services were 
conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. B. Umberger.
