Obituary of SCHUMACHER, OTTO HENRY, III 1988 Oconee, SC Keowee Courier, September 14, 1988 LT. COL. O. H. SCHUMACHER Walhalla---Lt. Col. Otto Henry Schumacher, III, USAF retired, 71, of Route 2, North Laurel St. Extension, husband of Rose Craig Schumacher, died Thursday, September 8, 1988 at Greenville Memorial Hospital following a protracted illness. He was a native of Walhalla, a son of the late Otto Henry and Fannie Crisp Schumacher. Col. Schumacher retired from the U. S. Air Force after 24 years of distinguished service. Col. Schumacher flew as a Navigator in World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters and in the Korean Conflict. He ended his military career in Denver, Colo., having served as Comptroller for the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center and in 1965 he retired to Walhalla with his family. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and a member of Saint John(sic) Lutheran Church. Surviving in addition to the wife of the home are four sons, Otto H. Schumacher, IV of Simpsonville, James R. Schumacher, Major U. S. Air Force, Belleville, Ill., John P. Schumacher, MD of Malberg, West Germany, and C. Craig Schumacher of Walhalla; eight grandchildren; one brother, Paul D. Schumacher of Thomaston, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. J. P. (Frances) Booker of Walhalla. Funeral services were held Sunday at 4:00 p. m. from the Saint John(sic) Lutheran Church conducted by his pastor, the Rev. John Petry, III. Interment with Military Rites by a detachment from Shaw Air Force Base was in the church cemetery. Davenport Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted.
