Obituary of STANCIL, MYRTLE FREEMAN 1960 Oconee, SC Keowee Courier, September 21, 1960 Mrs. Stancil, 66 Dies In Seneca Mrs. Myrtle Lee Stancil, 66 year-old Seneca matron, died suddenly at her home, Sept. 10. Mrs. Stancil was a native of Liberty, a daughter of the late Jim and Nannie Hawkins Freeman, both natives of Pickens county. She spent most of her life in the Seneca-Newry area, where for 51 years she was employed by Abney Mills at Newry. Her husband, Gus Stancil, died in 1951, and following her retirement three years ago, she moved to the present address in, Seneca. Mrs. Stancil was formerly a member of the Old Liberty Baptist church in Pickens county, but in more recent years she had attended the Lydia Baptist church at Newry. Survivors include three sons, Roy J. Stancil and Jimmy Stancil, both of Seneca, and Elijah Stancil of Belton; six daughters, Mrs. Willie Harvey, of Greenville, Mrs. Ina Canupp, of Westminster, Mrs. Ellie Proffitt, of, Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Ethel Smith, and Mrs. Marie Hix, both of Seneca, Mrs. Nancy Goss, of Newry; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Gillman, of Anderson; five brothers, Charlie Freeman, Walhalla, George Freeman, Anderson, Cliff Freeman, Newry, Clarence Freeman, Central and Fred Freeman of Easley. Funeral services were held from Lydia Baptist church Monday with the Rev. Ralph Sassard, the Rev. C. G. Wyatt and the Rev. Hovey Revis officiated. Burial was in the family plot in Corinth Baptist church cemetery. Pallbearers: Oscar Hamilton, H. B.
