Obituary of SNEAD, MARY ALICE BOYD 1942 Oconee, SC Keowee Courier, November 11, 1942 Mrs. Alice Snead Passes At Home Funeral Held Saturday at Bethel Church Following an illness of two weeks, Mrs. Mary Alice Boyd Snead died November 6 at her home near Walhella. She was 70 years of age. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 7, from Bethel Presbyterian church by the pastor, the Rev. Frank R. Morse, assisted by the Rev. Ben M. Clark, pastor of the Walhalla Lutheran church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The following grandsons, acted as pallbearers: James E. Snead, Marvin, George, and Samuel Edwards, Snead Schumacher and Varner Lewis. Flower girls were the following granddaughters: Lucy Snead, Virginia Lee, Hilda Snead, Mrs. Volley Lewis, Avis and Mary Edwards, and Mrs. Anna Watkins. Mrs. Snead, the daughter of James Edward Boyd and Mary Neal Boyd, was born near Walhalla April 23, 1872. She was married August 2, 1888 to Samuel Harding Snead, who died four years ago last May. Had he lived three, months longer they would have observed their golden wedding anniversary. To this union 13 children were born. Practically all of Mrs. Snead's life was spent in and near Walhalla. Her life was one of usefulness, in her home, church, and community. With unswerving faith in God's promises, she looked upon life with courage, cheerfulness, and optimism. She was a devoted member of Bethel church. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. C. F. Edwards, of Duncan; C H. Snead, of Pensacola, Fla.; S. E. Snead, of Seneca; Mrs. Clara Schumacher, Mrs. R. L. Campbell, Mrs. R. T. Rudeen, Mrs. Robert E. Henson, and J. G. Snead, all of Walhalla.
