Obituary of SUTTLES, FRED 1951 Oconee, SC Keowee Courier, November 15, 1951 Suttles Rites At Westminster Final rites were held Tuesday from the Westminster First Baptist Church for Fred Suttles, 59, who died Sunday at the Lawson General hospital near Atlanta, Ga. He had been seriously ill for two weeks and in declining health for several months. Officiating at the rites were the Rev. M. J. Stansell, the Rev. C. A. Richardson, and the Rev. W. R. Ward. Burial was in the church cemetery with members of the American Legion post and the VFW post in charge of military rites. Pall-bearers were L. A. and Morris Cleland, A. J. Rogers, William Hawkins, Vodrie Duvall, and Wilford Sprouse. Mr. Suttles was a veteran of World War II with two years of overseas duty in France. He was two times awarded the purple heart for wounds received in action. Surviving are his mother; Mrs. Dovie Cobb Suttles of Westminster; his widow, Mrs. Viola Crump Suttles; five sons, Furman Suttles of the home, J. B. and Ray Suttles of Greenville, Fred Suttles, Jr. of the U. S. Navy of Pensacola. Fla., and Jack Suttles of the Navy, Atlantic Fleet; three daughters, Mrs. J. W. Estes of Greenville, Miss Sara Suttles and Miss Betty Suttles of the home. Also surviving are seven brothers, Sloan, Willie, Jesse, Hoyt, and Charlie Suttles of Westminster, and Luther Suttles of Americus, Ga., Clem Suttles of Long Creek; four sisters, Mrs. John Reed, Mrs. Will Collins and Mrs. C.
