PHILLIPS, JAMES MADISON Tugaloo Tribune, February 2, 1920 Mr. J. M. Phillips, for many years clerk of court for Franklin county, Georgia, died in Birmingham, Ala., on January 29th at the age of 81 years. Mr. Phillips had many relatives in the county who deeply regret to learn of his death. He was the eldest son of the late George W. Phillips and Ara Abbott Phillips, who lived near Westminster and he was a brother of Mr. James E. Phillips, Mrs. Mary Sullivan and Mrs. R. Y. H. Lowery. Mr. Phillips was a active and leading citizen of the town of Carnesville for a long time. He leaves three sons and two daughters. One of the reasons Mr. Phillips has spent his life in newspaper work and is at present connected with the Southern Ruralist of Atlanta, Ga. One daughter, Ara, is the widow of the late James Alexander of Coneross.
