Obituary of MORGAN, JOHN HARRELSTON 1928 Oconee, SC Keowee Courier, May 30, 1928 John Harrelston Morgan, of Newry, died at his home there on Thursday last at the age of 74 years, his death following a long illness. His wife, who was before marriage Miss Mary Morgan, preceded him to the grave only a few months. Funeral services were held at New Hope Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. H. Tannery, assisted by Revs. W. A. Leroy and Warren Harbin. Mr. Morgan was born on the Morgan home place, one mile above Newry, on Oct. 7th, 1953. He often roamed those hills in successful pursuit of deer and turkey. He spent practically his whole life in the county. He was the eldest son of the late Mattison and Elizabeth Hunnicutt Morgan. His ancestors among the pioneer settlers of this county. He leaves three brothers, Harrison and Joseph Morgan, of Newry, and Alonzo Morgan, of Seneca; two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Watson, Seneca and Mrs. Will Huscamp, Cashiers N. C.; three sons, Eugene Morgan, of Newry; Oldridge and Elmer Morgan, of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Ollie Stone, Marion, N. C., and Miss Selma Morgan, of Newry. He made his home with the latter.
