Obituary of GIBSON, MARY HANDY MASON 1898 Oconee County, SC Keowee Courier, March 1898 On last Friday, March 24, just as the sun had sank beneath the horizon and the stars had begun to twinkle in the heavens and the moon piercing its faded lights on this beautiful earth, then it was that this community sustained such a great loss by the death of Mrs. J. W. Gibson. About ten months ago the subject of these reflections became afflicted with a disease resembling what is known as dropsy of the heart. Her suffering was great, but she born it with the greatest of patience. She was born in September, 1855 and was consequently in her 44th year when the summons came. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. Elias Mason, who is so well-known over this county. Mrs. Gibson was a devoted wife and a kind mother. She leaves a husband and eleven children and many relatives and friends to mourn their loss. On Saturday, after appropriate funeral services by her pastor, Rev. D. W. Hiott, her remains were laid to rest in the Cross Roads cemetery by the side of her sister. May the blessings of a Heavenly Father rest upon the stricken home. ************************************************************************ Copyright.
