Crenshaw Rites Held Sunday
   Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Ansel Funeral Home 
for Fred J. Crenshaw, 69, who succumbed Saturday at an Anderson hospital after 
a serious illness of several weeks.  He had been in declining health for some 
three years.  The Rev. J. Claude Evans and Rev. Peter Stokes conducted the 
final rites.  The body remained at the funeral home until Monday when it was 
carried to Whitsett, N. C. for interment in Springwood Cemetery. Pall-bearers 
were Lewis Campbell, Newton Crenshaw, Jack Kelley, Alfonso Johnson, Melvin T. 
Johnson, and Floyd B. Crenshaw.  Before returning to Walhalla to make his home 
in 1949, Mr. Crenshaw had served with the Capitol Police Force in Washington, 
D. C.  He was injured severely in the line of duty while making an arrest 
shortly before his retirement from the force.  Since returning here he had 
become one of Walhalla's most respected and beloved citizens.  He was a son of 
the late Newton and Augusta Seiskey Crenshaw.  He was born and reared in 
Walhalla, and left here in 1905 for Washington, D. C. where he was connected 
with the Capital Transit Company for 39 1/2 years.  Later he was with the U. S. 
Capitol police force, for about two years.  Following his retirement in 1949 he 
came back to Walhalla to make his home.  He was a member of St. Luke Methodist 
church in Walhalla.     Survivors include Mrs. Roberta Sheperd Crenshaw; five 
sisters, Miss Ella Crenshaw and Miss Sallie Crenshaw of Walhalla, Mrs. Grace C. 
Harrison, of Walhalla, Mrs. Augusta C. Hobart of Atlanta, and Mrs. Viola C. 
Hetrick of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one brother, Grover C. Crenshaw, of West 
Union; also a number of nieces and nephews
