Obituary of COX, FURMAN S. 1971 Oconee County, SC Keowee Courier, May 26, 1971 Furman S. Cox Rites Tuesday Furman S. Cox, 57, a resident of the Clemson Highway near Seneca, died unexpectedly Saturday at his home following a heart attack. Mr. Cox was a lifelong resident of Oconee County, a son of W. S. and Matilda Hudson Cox. Mr. Cox had been affiliated with the De Fore Mill, at Clemson for the past 26 years and was plant engineer at the time of his death. He was a member of the Clemson Lions Club, Westminster Masonic Lodge, American Institute of Plant Engineers, was a Democratic committeeman for Oconee County, and a former member of the Oconee Planning and Development Board. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Catherine Smith Cox, three brothers, Henry T. Cox and Glenn R. Cox, both of Westminster, and Joe A. Cox, of Greensboro, N. C.; four sisters, Mrs. Hallie Minyard, Mrs. Annis Jackson and Mrs. Grace Robinson, all of Westminster, and Mrs. Lillian Kerr, of Central. Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. M. J. Stansell, T. A. Woolbright and Mr. Claude Marchbanks. Burial was in Oconee Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Jack Garrison; Wade Gambrell, Lewis Hale, James Deadwilder, John Bowman and C.S. Nichols. The honorary escort was composed of the administrative employees of De Fore Mills along with W.S. Newton, D.O. DeFore, Lee Smith, Elvie Holliday. L.M. Sparks and Dr. Robert H.
