Obituary of BOYD, JAMES LAFAYETTE 1905 Oconee County, SC Keowee Courier May 17, 1905 Major James L. Boyd died at his home, on Crooked Creek, near Newry, on Monday, 15th instant, at the advanced age of 84 years. He leaves his wife and one son, Robert H. Boyd, of Seneca, who have the sympathy of many friends. His long life was one of great industry and usefulness. By occupation a farmer, yet he took much interest in the welfare of his community, county and State. He served many years, first as captain and then as major of the militia. He also represented Pickens District in the General Assembly, and his strong common sense made him a valuable member. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church for many years, and in him was exemplified the life of humble Christian. No man stood higher in the confidence and esteem of those who knew him. He was a Master Mason, and the square of morality and virtue was a potent force in his daily conduct. His body was buried at New Hope Baptist church this morning at 11 o'clock, after appropriate funeral service, with Masonic honors.
