Obituary of BOGGS, JAMES L. Date Unknown Oconee County, SC Mr. Jas. L. Boggs, who twenty-five or thirty odd years ago, lived in the Hopewell M. E. church vicinity, died at the home of Dr. Tripp, near Easley, Sunday, Oct. 7th. He died suddenly, although his death had been expected, as he had been a sufferer of heart trouble several years. He was able to be up and around and expired about eleven o'clock in the forenoon. Mr. Boggs was well and favorably known, in Oconee, having lived in the county many years. In the nineties he served Oconee as coroner, having been elected the year 1896. He was one of the county's county good farmers and substantial citizens. He had been living in Pickens, his native county the past ten or fifteen years. He was a clever gentleman and many will be sorry to learn he is dead. His wife died some years ago. He leaves three sons and two daughters and a number of grandchildren. The children are Mr. Julius C. Boggs, who lives at the old home site in Hopewell section, Mr. Geo. M. Boggs, of Westminster, Mr. Luther Boggs, now of Florida: Mrs. Annie Cox, of Holly Springs and Mrs. Leola Smith, of Greenville. The children from this section and Miss Addie Mae Boggs, granddaughter, are at Liberty today for the funeral and interment; the interment taking place this afternoon at Golden Grove cemetery in Pickens county. Mr. Boggs was related to the numerous Boggs families in Pickens. The body of his wife and many other deceased relations were buried in the Golden Grove cemetery. Mr. Boggs was 73 years old.
