BURTON, DEWEY L. Keowee Courier, July 4, 1956 Submitted by: Susan Brock-Booker Dewey Burton Rites Are Held Dewey L. Burton, 57, well-known farmer of the Old Pickens community, died suddenly in a doctor's office in Seneca Monday following a heart attack he had suffered shortly before at his home. Mr. Burton was a native and long-time resident of Oconee county having lived the past 10 years at his present home. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Pearl Bowen Hughes Burton; two sons, Louie and Charles Alvin Burton of Seneca; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Massey and Miss Edna Mae Burton, also of Seneca; one stepson, Waymon Hughes of Seneca; two step-daughters, Mrs. Alice Williams and Mrs. Selma Kelley of Seneca; one brother, Major B. Burton of Seneca; and three grand-children. Funeral services were held from Wolf Stake Baptist church Wednesday with the Revs. V. W. Prince, Preston Garrett and Clyde Crenshaw officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Harold Poore, Louie James, Charles James, Thomas Hicks, Raymond Jones and James Clark.
