Obituary of ABBOTT, RONNIE W. 1924 Oconee County, SC Keowee Courier, October 1, 1924 RONNIE ABBOTT DIED LAST SATURDAY Was Well Known and Highly Esteemed by All Who Knew Him in Walhalla. End Came at Atlanta Hospital Following Operation The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Abbott, of Westminster, will be grieved to learn of the death of their son, Ronnie Abbott, who passed away last Saturday night in a hospital in Atlanta, where he had been taken for an operation in the hope, of saving his life. He had been suffering greatly for a year or more, with no hope of recovery without an operation to relieve certain internal conditions, and with but slight hope of benefit through an operation, with the chances of recovery slight in the event of an operation. Realizing the hopelessness of the situation his family were opposed to the operation, but the wishes of the suffering young man were finally acceded to, and he was taken to the hospital, where he underwent the operation that held out to him the one chance that he might be restored to health or at least relieved of his constant suffering. The operation was performed and he apparently stood the ordeal well, but in about an hour there was a severe reaction and his life ebbed away. Mr. Abbott was about, 25 years of age and was known by all his associates and acquaintances as a splendid young man, of sterling worth. He resided with his parents in the Coneross section of the county until a few years ago, when the family moved to Westminster to make their home. The body was returned to Westminster Sunday, and on Monday was to have been interred in the cemetery. at Coneross but due to the washed condition of the roads the interment was postponed until yesterday about noon. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends of the deceased and of the family were present at the interment to pay the last sad tribute to the deceased. Young Mr. Abbott at one time attended the Walhalla High School and he had hosts of friends among the former students as well as among the citizens of Walhalla, who sympathize deeply with the bereaved ones in the sadness that has come to them in the untimely death of this splendid young man. ************************************************************************ Copyright.
