The Rev. Henry Adams officiated and burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Pope, 72, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Chester County Hospital. Born in Union County on May 25, 1930, he was a son of the late Raymond Joseph Pope and Ida Jane Mills Pope. A retiree of J.P. Stevens Co., Mr. Pope attended the Church of the Nazarene and attended school in Chesterfield County. Survivors include a wife, Betty Hiers Pope; two sons, James Odell Pope of Myrtle Beach and John Lewis Pope of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Mary Jane Estes of Myrtle Beach; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Magdalene Pope Dixon of Chester. Memorials may be made to Church of the Nazarene, 12 Underwood Ave., Great Falls.
