Mr. Jessie C. ‘Sonny’ Autry, 71
CHESTER — Graveside services for Mr. Jessie C. “Sonny” Autry of 1864 
J.A. Cochran By-Pass were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6 in
Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Bishop officiating. Mr. Autry, 
71, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center. Born in 
Chester on Jan. 12, 1931, he was a son of the late Marvin McKinley 
Autry and Nettie Inez Smith Autry. A former staff sergeant in the U.S. 
Air Force during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Autry was retired from 
Springs Industries. Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn A. 
Matthews and her husband, Lamar, of Chester; a granddaughter, Shelley 
Evans of Chester; and a great-grandson, Matthew Evans of Chester. He 
was predeceased by his wife, Mary Blease Proctor Autry. Wright’s Home 
for Funerals was in charge of arrangements.
