TITLE: Mary Alice Montgomery SOURCE: The News and Reporter SUBMITTED BY: The News and Reporter FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Oct 2002 *********************************************************************** Mrs. Mary Alice Montgomery, 73 LANCASTER – The funeral for Mrs. Mary Alice Hilliard Montgomery of 450-F Colonial Ave., Lancaster, the mother of a Chester resident, was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Needham Williamson and Pastor Jerry DeVinney officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Memorial Park. Mrs. Montgomery, 73, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster. Born in Johnsonville on Feb. 25, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Heyward Erington Hilliard Sr. and Juanita Bruce Hilliard. A graduate of Kershaw High School, she attended Limestone College, where she provided piano accompaniment for the college chorus. Mrs. Montgomery began playing piano and organ at age 7 and taught piano lessons from her home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lancaster. Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Lee Montgomery of Lancaster, Lyl Montgomery Brackett and her husband, David, of Aiken and Mary Lewis Anthony and her husband, Roger, of Chester; a brother, Heyward Erington “Eric” Hilliard Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Lancaster; a sister, Barbara Hilliard Thompson and her husband, James E., of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Marilyn Keller Henry, Eston Montgomery Keller, Jay Evan Montgomery, Allison Leigh Brackett, Emily Ann Brackett and Jonathan Lewis Anthony; and three great-grandchildren, Aria Nicole Henry, Liliana Dawn Henry and Mason Elizabeth Henry. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Lewis “Buddy” Montgomery. Memorials may be made to Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 608, Lancaster, SC 29721.
