James Linder Sr., 94 FORT LAWN – The funeral for the Rev. James Benjamin Linder Sr. of 5586 Main St., Fort Lawn, was conducted at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fort Lawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Curtis E. Wells officiating. Burial was Monday morning in Laurelwood Cemetery, Rock Hill. The Rev. Linder, 94, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster. Born in Orangeburg on Feb. 7, 1908, he was a son of the late Benjamin Lawton and Florence Elizabeth Kinsey Linder. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended Columbia College, Duke University and Emory University. He was a member of the Order Eastern Star, Oasis Shrine Temple and of Fort Lawn United Methodist Church. The Rev. Linder was a retired minister who served the Fort Lawn Charge, Inman Mills United Methodist Church in Inman, Dunean United Methodist Church in Greenville, Grace United Methodist Church in Lancaster and Van Wyck United Methodist Church in Van Wyck. Survivors include his wife, Lila R. Linder of Fort Lawn; two daughters, Gelola L. Dunlap of Rock Hill and Blythe B. Hitch of Columbus, Ohio; four sons, James B. Linder Jr. of Chester, Jon G. Linder of Lexington, Ky., Neal C. Linder of Chatsworth, Ga., and Paul K. Linder of Deep Run, N.C.; a sister, Christina Taylor of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Debra Hindman and Beth Crawford Baker, both of Fort Lawn; and a stepson, Dr. Charles Crawford of Rock Hill. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mamie Evelyn Neal Linder. Memorials may be made to Fort Lawn United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 310, Fort Lawn, SC 29714.
