Pilgrim Baptist Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Robert Ecford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gladney, 54, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Piedmont Medical Center. Born in Chester on May 18, 1948, he was a son of the late Richard Gladney and Mattie Jones Gladney. He attended the public schools of Chester and was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Mr. Gladney was a former construction worker. Survivors include his wife, Dora J. Sinclair Gladney of Chester; two sons, James D. Gladney and Phillips J. Gladney and his wife, Mond, all of Chester; seven daughters, Angela G. Raley of Pageland, Iris Sinclair Gladney, Permissile Gladney, Shalonda Gladney, Irisha Gladney and Felithia Gladney, all of Chester, and Vera Moore and her husband, Billy, of Rock Hill; a brother, Ernest Gladney and his wife, Anna, of Chester; two sisters, Lillie Gladney Carroll and her husband, James, of Baltimore and Martha G. Harrison of Queens, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jessie Gladney and Willie Bert Gladney; and a sister, Ruby Lee Gladney. The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter, Felithia Gladney, at 125-B McClure St., Chester. The body may be viewed from 3-9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m.-noon on Sunday at King’s Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church on Sunday at 1 p.m. King’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
