She is survived by three sons, Franz David Cone of Winston-Salem, N.C., Julien Murray Cone of Charleston, S.C., and John Theodore Cone and his wife Denise of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Charles Edward and his wife Avie, Christopher Albert and his wife Kelly, and Sara Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Avie Lou and Ian Christopher. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rayford Cone, Jr., and her grandson Robert David. She was born January 21, 1908, in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of William Theodore Melchers and Lilly Caroline Welling Melchers. She graduated from Memminger High School. Her 94 years were filled with love, selfless service and a deep and abiding faith. She was a devoted mother and doting grandmother, a talented artist and writer, an accountant, a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Communion and a dear friend to so many. Living through two world wars and the depression left a lifelong mark on Virginia. She was frugal and appreciated the value and cost of freedom. She was a walking history book, and delighted in sharing her stories and knowledge with anyone who would listen. Her mind was sharp until her last days and she knew as much about current events as historical ones. She lived life to the fullest and inspired those around her with the joy she took from life. Virginia was loved by all she met and she repaid that love manyfold. She will be greatly missed. Please join her family and friends for a Celebratioin of Her Life on Thursday, October 17, 2002, at the Church of the Holy Communion. A Requiem Mass will be held at 10 o'clock followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Ave., Charleston, S.C. 29403. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
