TITLE: Robert Henry Benson SOURCE: The News and Reporter SUBMITTED BY: The News and Reporter FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Oct 2002 *********************************************************************** Mr. Robert Henry Benson, 70 BLACKSTOCK — The funeral for Mr. Robert Henry Benson of 6792 Old Douglas Road, Blackstock, was conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dale Roddey officiating. Burial with Masonic rites followed at Chester Memorial Gardens. Mr. Benson, 70, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Dorn V.A. Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Chester on Feb. 15, 1932, he was a son of the late Leonard James Benson and Louise Bishop Benson. A graduate of Chester High School, he was a retired self-employed electrician. He attended Leeds Baptist Church. Mr. Benson was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, who was the recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the 5th RCT Infantry, Blackstock Masonic Lodge No. 180 and was a past member of Coleman Masonic Lodge No. 97 and Sandy River Masonic Lodge No. 207. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Hopper Benson; three sons, Chester County Sheriff Robert H. Benson of Blackstock and Richard H. Benson and James A. Leonard, both of Chester; a daughter, Joyce B. Wilson of Chester; a brother, Dan Benson, formerly of Chester; a sister, Georgie Gaines of Columbus, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Jeannie B. O’Connor of Lexington; and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Leeds Baptist Church, 3231 Leeds Road, Carlisle, S.C. 29031. Barron Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
