TITLE: Joan Virlie Holmes SOURCE: The Post and Courier SUBMITTED BY: The Post and Courier FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** HOLMES, Joan Miss Joan Virlie Holmes, 61, of 1209 Crestview, North Augusta, S.C., died Monday evening in a North Augusta health care facility after an extended illness. Miss Holmes was born in Laurens, S.C., June 1, 1940, a daughter of the late Joseph Simpson Holmes and Virlie Vaughan Holmes. Miss Holmes was a former school teacher and had retired from the Aiken County School District as the Speech Pathologist Director. She was a graduate of Winthrop University, and received her Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina. She was a member of the North Augusta Presbyterian Church. Surviving are, two brothers, Harold Vaughan Holmes of Lacy's Spring, Ala., and Paul Joseph Holmes of Yemassee. There are three nieces and four nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, in the Sandy Run Baptist Church in Hampton County, with burial in the Sandy Run Cemetery, directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON. The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to the Alzheimers Association, Mid-State South Carolina Chapter, Attention: Nancy Elliott, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, S.C. 29202, or the charity or church of your choice. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, and Friday until the hour of services.
