Garris, 86, of Charleston, owner of J.R. Garris Floor Sanding Co., died Monday in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in St. George, he was the son of Joseph Benjamin Garris and Lula Fogle Garris. Mr. Garris was Charleston's premiere floor finisher for more than 50 years and trained many of the floor finishers in the area. He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church. Mr. Garris was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Collins Garris. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Heaton of James Island; sons, Randy Garris of Charleston, Danny Garris of Summerville and Grady Garris of Mt. Pleasant; a siter, Ertelle Smoak of St. Matthews; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
