Funeral Mass will be held, 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2001, at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, with Fr. P. James Costigan celebrant. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Friend was a native of Lynchburg, Va., and lived in Augusta for eight years. While in Augusta, she was employe das a Program Assistant for the University of Georgia Extension Service and was a volunteer for St. Joseph Hospice. She was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. Surviving are husband, E. Wyatt Friend, Morristown, Tenn.; son, Joseph Wyatt Friend, Summerville, S.C.; daughter, Angela Marie Friend Smith, Simpsonville, S.C.; one sister, Lona Honoree Jeter, Norfolk, Va., and five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a sister, Sojia Elise Alvis. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Poteet Funeral Home - West Chapel, 3686 Wheeler Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Vanderbuilt Center for Lung Research, Attn: Pulmonary Fibrosis Research, T1217 Medical Center North, 1161 21st Ave. South, Nashville, N.W., Tenn. 37232-2650.
