Colter, 91, formerly of Treadwell Street, Orangeburg, died at a local Charleston hospital. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2001 in Trinity United Methodist Church with burial in Belleville Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be the Rev. Ernest Etheredge. Mrs. Colter was born April 29, 1910 daughter of the late Gilbert and India Mitchell. She was the widow of Rev. Dr. James S. Colter. She enjoyed a full life, first as a teacher in the elementary schools of Orangeburg County, then as a cosmetologist for over 50 years. Survivors include a daughter, Rossie M. Colter of Charleston, SC. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Phillip Simmons Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 21585, Charleston, SC 29413-1585 or to Trinity United Methodist Church, 185 Boulevard NE, Orangeburg, SC 29115.
