TITLE: Remi Boissonnas SOURCE: The Post and Courier SUBMITTED BY: The Post and Courier FORMATTED BY: Kim Grissom, Jun 2003 *********************************************************************** BOISSONNAS, Remi Mr. Remi Boissonnas of Paris France, and Charleston, South Carolina, died on October 15, 2001, in Paris. Mr. Boissonnas was born in Paris on May 7, 1908. After graduating from L'Institute de Science Politique in the 1930's, he began working for the Mirabaud Bank. Mr. Boissonnas served as a lieutenant in the French Army during World World II. Following the war, he continued with the Mirabaud Bank, and in 1954 he facilitated the merger with the Bank of Union Parisienne. In 1961 he left the banking world to work with his brother in the development of Flaine, a ski resort in the French Alps. He remained with Flaine until his retirement in 1973. Mr. Boissonnas had many passions in life, most notably his love for music which was demonstrated through his involvement with the Ecole Normale de Musique, a private music school in Parris. He served as director for seven years. He was a great admirer and faithful attendant of the Spoleto Festival USA, in Charleston, and also supported efforts to make American musicians welcome in Paris through his involvement with L'Bienvenue Francais. Additionally, Mr. Boissonnas was an accomplished musician: he played the piano until age 82, when he shifted to the cello and finally to the saxophone in his last years. The outdoors, specifically mountaineering and fishing, was another important aspect of Mr. Boissonnas' life. As a young man he climbed in the Alps, summiting several notable peaks. Mr. Boissonnas spent almost 30 years as a summer resident of Eaton's Ranch in Wolf, Wyoming, where he pursued riding, climbing, and fly-fishing. Although his professional career required him to be in an office, he felt happiest outdoors. Beyond music and nature, Mr. Boissonnas took great interest in his family. He was widowed in 1958 by his first wife, an American named Mary Louise Lobensteine, with whom he had four children. In 1961 he married June Clark Wood of Big Horn, Wyoming, a widow with four children. In 1999 Mr. and Mrs. Boissonnas celebrated their 90th birthdays with a family reunion at Eaton's Ranch with over 100 close family members. Mr. Boissonnas is survived by his wife, June Boissonnas; his brother, Mr. Eric Boissonnas; his sister, Mme. Christian Girard; his sons, Jean, Christian, and Alain Boissonnas; his daughter, Marie Christine de la Morlais; his stepsons, Rob and Willis Wood; his stepdaughter, Carol Duell; thirty grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
