We are sad to announce the death of our brother, Retired US Air Force 
SSGT, Thomas Andrew Bates, 45, in Garmisch Germany. He was a civil 
service employee of the George C. Marshall, European Center for 
Security Studies, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. A full military 
funeral will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary 
St., Beaufort, Nov. 1, 12:00 Noon. He is survived by his mother, 
Margaret P. Bates of Forest Hills Rest Home-Fayetteville, NC, two 
sisters, Mary Duffer of Charleston, SC and Jo Ann Ferguson of 
Summerville, SC, one niece, Heather Duffer, two nephews-Perry 
Holtsberry and John Duffer, and by his ex-wife, Karin Bates of Germany.
Flowers can be sent to the COPELAND FUNERAL HOME, One Copeland Dr., 
Beaufort, SC 29903 or the cemetery. (Published Oct 29, 2001)
