Sandra Lynn Bartels, 55, of Wadmalaw Island, died Sunday morning, October 21, 2001 in a local hospital. The funeral service will be 4:30 o'clock Tuesday, October 23, 2001 in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call this afternoon (Monday) from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL. A native of Vero Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of William and Jane Stanaland Schmeer. She was the guidance office secretary of Wando High School. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Richard L. Bartels, Sr., her son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Emily Melton Bartels, Jr. of Atlanta, her daughter and son-in-law, Clare and Randy McKay of Columbia, and her daughter Jana Bartels and her fianc‚e Marc Robson, of Atlanta. Her sister, Mary Jane Tippett of Sebastian, FL and her brother, Chuck Schmeer of Vero Beach, FL also survive. Her many friends, students, and associates at Wando High School will also mourn her loss. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, Lowcountry Chapter, 267 Calhoun St., Charleston, SC 29401.
