Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Prospect United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery, directed by STOUENMIRE-DOWLING FUNERAL HOME. Mr. Alford was born in Pamplico a son of the late Furman Cleveland and Cora Lee Ard Alford. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a mechanic for Plowden Motors in Pamplico for 25 years. He was also a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Alford. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Dare Lee Alford of Pamplico; son, Herbert William Alford, Jr., Pamplico; daughter, Wendy Alford of Orangeburg; sister, Geneva "Shelby Jean" Troiano of Pamplico; grandchildren, Autumn, Somer, and Brooke Flowers; great-grandchildren, Randyn and Ashlyn Flowers; two life time friends, Edward "Wilson" Coleman of Summerville and Edward "Junior" Stephens of Pamplico; special family friend, Jessica Boswell; and softball buddy, Larry Watts. Memorials may be made to the College of Charleston Softball Program, 8 George St., Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
