Brooks, 79, of Goose Creek, died Friday, May 18, 2001. Born November 23, 1921, in Eldred, Pa., he was the son of Purlond and Hazel Brown Brooks. He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and retired as a CWO-4 Officer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member of the Riverbanks Zoological Society and a volunteer at Roper and Trident Regional Hospital for several years. His wife, Clare D. Brooks, preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jo Brooks, of Goose Creek; son, Samuel N. Brooks, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Deborah Brooks of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Michelle Farley and husband Billy of Summerville, S.C., Shawn Benton and husband, Tracy, of Marianna, Fla., Christy Breu of Jacksonville, Fla., Cara Brooks of Upatoi, Ga., Chuck Brooks and wife Emily of Goose Creek, S.C., Phil Brooks and wife Francine of Goose Creek, S.C.; and three great grandchildren, Brittany Brooks and Philip Brooks of Goose Creek, S.C., and Brook Breu of Jacksonville, Fla. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will be held at the National Cemetery in Dover, Tenn. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 510 St. James Ave. (Hwy. 176), Goose Creek, S.C. 29445, or to the American Diabetes Association Serving South Carolina, 2711 Middleburg Dr., Kittrel Center, Suite 205, Columbia, S.C. 29204.
