Chip Sneed officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Ashley, 78, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. Born in York County on June 26, 1922, she was the daughter of William B. and Ada McKeown Matthews. She graduated from Chester High School and was retired from Grace Bleachery. Mrs. Ashley was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Stokes Ashley III. She is survived by three sisters, Janie Chapman of Rock Hill and Annie Grant and Eliza Watts, both of Chester; one brother, Patrick Matthews of Union; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening at Barron Funeral Home.
