TITLE: John Edward Wilks SOURCE: The News and Reporter, May 16, 2001 SUBMITTED: The News and Reporter FORMATTED: Kim Grissom, May 2001 *********************************************************************** Mr. John Edward ‘Fat’ Wilks, 84 CHESTER — The funeral for Mr. John Edward “Fat” Wilks of 846 Featherstone Road, Chester, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Darby Road, Chester. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Wilks, 84 died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Chester County Hospital. Mr. Wilks was educated in Chester County schools. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He was the owner of Wilks Garage. He was also employed by Springs Industries and Essex Manufacturing. Mr. Wilks was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board. He was preceded in death by his wife; the late Tommie Lee Kitchen Wilks. He is survived by three sons, Charles Kitchen and his wife, Barbara, Rayford Wilks and his wife, Barbara, all of Charlotte, John Curtis Wilks, Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. Juanita McKeown and her husband, Samuel, of Honolulu, Hawaii and Mrs. Telatha Hannah and her husband, Ervin, of High Point, N.C.; four sisters, Ms. Annie Mae Wilks, Mrs. Hattie Davis, Mrs. Beatrice La Prade and Mrs. Mary Alice Vance and her husband, Elmo, all of Chester; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the home. The remains will lie in state at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Flowers may be delivered to the church prior to the service.
