John Joseph Liberatos, 79, of Charleston, husband of Margaret Dameron Liberatos, died Friday 
evening, May 25, 2001. He was born October 18, 1921 to James P. and Julia Droppert Liberatos.
Mr. Liberatos was the former owner of John Liberatos Crematorium and was former general manager 
of John McAlister, Inc. He graduated from Charleston High School, attended the College of 
Charleston, and was a graduate of College of Mortuary Science, St. Louis, Missouri. He served 
in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a life member of the Hibernian Society 
and a life member of the Elks Lodge No. 242. He was past president of the S.C. State Board of 
Funeral Service. He was a member of St.Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitors may call at JAMES A. 
McALISTER FUNERAL HOME on Monday, May 28, 2001 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will 
be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 10:30 AM in the James A. McAlister Chapel. Committal services 
will be private. Mr. Liberatos is survived by his wife, Margaret Dameron Liberatos, of 
Charleston, two sons, John Gerard Liberatos of Saluda, NC, and Dr. James Dameron Liberatos of 
Ruston, La, one sister, Mrs. Catherine L. Braunschweig, of Charleston, and four grandsons and 
a cousin Libby Poole of Charleston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hibernian 
Society Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 134, Charleston, SC 29402. Arrangements by JAMES A. 
McALISTER, INC., 1620 Savannah Hwy. 766-1365.
