A native of Oconee County, he was a brick mason, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Wolf Stake Baptist Church. He was the widower of Mattie Lucille Jones Owens, and the son of the late W.L. "Pat" and Nora Pearl Johnson Owens. Surviving are a son, Fred M. Owens of West Union; daughters, Debra Owens and Vivian Owens, both of West Union; and grandchildren, Michael Owens and Joan Owens. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Nellie O. Robinson; and brothers, William J. Owens, Raymond L. Owens Rufus J. Owens and Johnny Bruce Owens. Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at wolf Stake Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The body is at Davenport Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
