Edward P. Flynn, Jr. (Ret.), 80, widower of Elizabeth M. McDermott, died Saturday, May 19, 2001. Capt. Flynn was born in New York, New York, April 8, 1921, a son of Edward P. Flynn, Sr., and Carolyn V. Pickel Flynn. He attended schools of New York and graduated from the New York State Merchant Marine Academy and was a retired Captain in the United States Navy. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Elks Club of Charleston and as a Navy Veteran served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Visitors may call between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m., Monday, May 21, at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service, 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in the Chapel of MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN, 150 Wentworth St., 722-8371. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Survivors are three daughters, Kathy F. Moore of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Carolyn F. Benedict of Atlanta, Ga., Elizabeth F. Deaton of Charleston, S.C., one brother, Richard E. Flynn of California, five grandchildren, Wendy A. Sawyer of Charleston, Michael L.
