Douglas Broome B. Douglas Broome, 81, of Bluffton, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head Island. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight in Sauls Funeral Home, Ridgeland. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Bluffton Cemetery. Mr. Broome was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Pageland, a son of Fred and Elizabeth Mullis Broome. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving during the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and Normandy. He received distinguished unit citation and the Purple Heart for wounds received in the invasion of Sicily. He owned Broome Construction Co. After retirement, he was the first bridge tender on Hilton Head bridge. Surviving are his wife, Marian Horton Broome of Bluffton; three sons, Robert W.
