Al Hughes, Jr., was born on November 23, 1929, a son Albert Lee Hughes, Sr., and Bessie Wylding in Orangeburg, S.C. He was the regional sales manager for Choice Vend of Windsor- Locks, Conn. For 17 years he was in sales with George and Tommy Thorne at Woodstock and Carolina Ladder Company of Charleston. Most recently, he was the owner of Carts and Hughes Steel products. He was a graduate of the Citadel, a member of the Brigadier Club and the Hobcaw Yacht Club, a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and a veteran of the United States Air Force and was recently employed at the Patriots Point Golf Course as a Course ``Ranger''. Visitors may call at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St., 722-8371, Saturday where the family will gather between the hours of 10:00 and 11:30 A.M. Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 noon at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Downtown Charleston. Burial, with Military Honors, will be Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Moser Hughes of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Albert Lee Hughes, III, of Wando, S.C., Matthew H. Dorsey of Columbia, S.C., four daughters, Lisa Whittington of Charleston, S.C., Ann "Missy" Turner of Edgefield, S.C., Katherine R.W. Hughes and Melissa E.C. Hughes, both of Mount Pleasant, S.C., one sister Elizabeth H. Oglesby of Raleigh, N.C., four grandchildren, Margaret Turner, Sarah Turner and Wiley Turner of Edgefield, S.C., and David Wesley Whittington of Charleston, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Citadel Brigadier Club, 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, S.C. 29409 .
