Johnson VA Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Charleston, SC to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Emil Schmidt, August 21, 1936, he was Honorably Discharged from the US Navy and also the US Army as a Paratrooper with the 101st Screaming Eagles. He was a Master Sign Painter and retired painting contractor. During his lifetime, he had gilded many of the historic church steeples of Charleston. He was the inventor of an electrical pickup for acoustical guitars sold worldwide. Having been a resident of the Charleston Orphan House, he was educated in Charleston Schools. He was Baptist. He is survived by relatives and friends in Alabama and Charleston. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
