TITLE: Lemuel Edgar Wiggins SOURCE: The Post and Courier, June 22, 2001 SUBMITTED: The Post and Courier FORMATTED: Kim Grissom, June 2001 *********************************************************************************************** Lemuel Edgar Wiggins, Jr., of Ashevile, N.C., age 93, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Givens Estates in Asheville, N.C. He was born in Bamberg, S.C., and was the son of the late Reverend Lemuel Edgar, Sr., and Leila Estelle Black Wiggins. He was a former resident of Summerville, S.C. He was a retired district engineer with the South Carolina Highway Department. He attended Clemson University and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, S.C. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Holler Wiggins, who died in 1996 and a sister, Harriet Wiggins. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Harriet Carter of Marion, S.C.; two sons, Lemuel E. Wiggins, III, of Duluth, Ga., and Reverend Ellwood (Woody) Wiggins of North Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Dr. Casper Wiggins of Greenwood, S.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth McDonald of Hickory, N.C., and Lydia McLaughlin of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Givens Estates with Chaplain J. Oscar Dowdle and Reverend Ellwood Wiggins officiating. Interment and graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, June 23, at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville, N.C. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerville, S.C. 29483, or Givens Estates, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, N.C. 28803.
