Pleasant, S.C., Retired Office Manager for Southern Railway died Friday, June 15, 2001, at his residence. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Arthur Walton are invited to attend the funeral services of the former at the graveside, St. Philip's Episcopal Churchyard, Charleston, S.C. Monday morning, June 18, 2001, at 10:30 o'clock. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Mr. Walton was born June 27, 1926, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of Elmer Arthur Walton and Jessie Ray Kidd Walton. He attended schools in Charlotte, N.C., and the University of North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed by Southern Railway System from April 16, 1947, until retirement on June 30, 1986. One of his first assignments was a clerical assistant on a business railway car. Later, his work for the railroad took him to other cities, including Charleston, where he lived for several years. An accomplished oil painter, Mr. Walton was the first president of the Charleston Artist's Guild. He was later transferred to Washington, D.C., where he was a charter member of the Society of the Bull and Bear. At the time of his retirement, he was serving the railroad, which had become Norfolk Southern Corporation, in Roanoke, Va. Mr. Walton had lived in Mount Pleasant, S.C., since retiring. He was a member of the church of the Holy Cross on Sullivan's Island, S.C., and had been an active volunteer at the church. Surviving are his wife, Henrietta Means Walton of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Cross, 2520 Middle St., Sullivan's Island, S.C. 29482.
