His funeral services will be held Monday, June 18, 2001, at 11 o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Friends may call one half hour prior to service. A career Foreign Service Officer (1959-1985) and former U.S. Ambassador to Bahrain (1974-1976), he went on to serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State from 1979-1982. He retired from the State Department in 1985 after three years as Dean of the Foreign Service Institute. From 1985-1993 he served as Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He closed his second career as Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University from 1998-1999. Mr. Twinam was born July 11, 1934, in Chattanooga, Tenn., and was married to Janet Ashby of Parkersburg, W.Va., from 1959 until her death in 1997. A daughter, Courtenay Twinam Golden of Franklin, Tenn., and a son, Marshall Ashby Twinam of Dallas, Texas, as well as half-sister, Virginia Twinam Smith of Atlanta, Ga., survives him.
